How to create red oxide flooring
Creating a red oxide floor involves carefully mixing the pigment with cement, applying it to a prepared surface, and curing it.
Preparation: The base floor surface must be rough, clean, and free from debris for proper adhesion.
Mixing: The red oxide powder, cement, and sometimes sand are mixed into a smooth, lump-free paste. The ratio can be adjusted to achieve the desired color intensity.
One common ratio is 1 part oxide to 3 parts cement for a deep red color.
For a lighter shade, increase the quantity of cement.
For a brighter color, use white cement instead of gray cement.
Application: The oxide-cement slurry is spread evenly over the floor base with a trowel to a thickness of 2–3 mm.
Curing: The finished surface is kept wet for several days, typically 3 to 7, to allow it to set properly and increase its durability.
Finishing: After the curing period, a polish, sometimes mixed with wax or oil, is applied and buffed to enhance the floor's shine.
